The first discussion in Kegalle District, which was held by coordinating district stakeholders and institutions on Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) disaster risk mitigation, was held at the District Secretariat Auditorium this morning (11).

Accordingly, the main objective of this meeting was to identify district stakeholders and central officers related to Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) disaster risk mitigation, and to prepare data systems at the district level, and to work to prepare those functions by involving relevant public and private institutions.
It is important to take measures to minimize the impact of a disaster or its consequences under the Disaster Management Act. Under this, awareness should be raised about the management of risks before chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear disasters occur and the actions to be taken during and after the disaster. The awareness was given by the Deputy Director of the National Disaster Management Center, Mr. Shan Pathirana. Thereafter, the officers concerned in each field who joined the discussion presented their views and suggestions. Taking those views into consideration, it is expected that joint measures will be taken to minimize disaster risks in the district in the future.
This awareness meeting was organized by the Deputy Director of the District Disaster Management Unit, Mr. Anura Viraj Dissanayake and the unit.
Additional District Secretary (Administration) Kusum Bandara, Additional District Secretary (Lands) Dilip Nishantha, District Planning Director A.A. Weerakoon, District Agriculture Director M.S. Thilaksiri, Divisional Secretaries, Secretaries of Pradeshiya Sabhas, government officials from the Kegalle and Mawanella Fire Departments, Zonal Education, Security Forces, Local Government, Health Services, Industrial Development, Small Businesses, private institutions and businessmen using chemicals, central officials and stakeholders involved in CBRN disasters were present at the event.
