A meeting to inform public officials about human rights was held at the District Secretariat Auditorium today (15) morning under the leadership of the Human Rights Commission.

First, Mr. Viswanath Gunasekara, Human Rights Officer of the Human Rights Commission, welcomed all those who had come for the program, and then Mr. Ranjith Uyangoda, Secretary of the Human Rights Commission, pointed out the purpose of the program.
After Ms. Menaka Herath, Director of the Education and Special Programs Division, commented on the role and procedures of the Human Rights Commission, Mr. Nimal Punchi Hewa, Commissioner of the Commission, pointed out the practical situation related to the functioning of the Commission. The special objective of the event was to further expand the knowledge of the heads of institutions and departments who were present, even after gaining a good understanding of human rights and legal procedures, in the face of new trends emerging today.
In particular, a discussion round was held for the participants of this program on the issues that have arisen in the district regarding the protection and violations of human rights and the issues related to intervention to resolve those issues, which was conducted by the Director (Monitoring and Review) of the Commission, Mr. Nihal Chandrajith.
It was decided to consider the suggestions and ideas obtained through this awareness program, which was conducted with the full support and guidance of the Human Rights Commission, in the future implementation of the Commission.
District Secretary/Government Agent Mr.Jagath Herath, Additional District Secretary (Administration) Mrs.Kusum Bandara, Additional District Secretary (Lands) Mr.Dilip Nishantha, staff officers, divisional secretaries, heads of local government institutions, police officers and a group of government officials were present at the event.
