The relevant technical institutions have informed that disaster incidents may be reported with the southwest monsoon which is becoming active these days and as a pre-emptive measure, the District Disaster Management Committee met 27th of May at the District Secretariat under the chairmanship of District Secretary Mr.Jagath Herath.
Since Kegalle District is prone to disasters every year with the rains, the District Secretary explained the need to be prepared for it and the need to minimize accidents.
The district's pre-emptive measures for disaster management were explained by the Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Division, Mr. K. G. Mahendra Jagath.
Officials from the National Building Inspection Organization, Irrigation Department, Road Development and Provincial Road Development Authority, Health Services, Local Government Institutions, Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Police, State Timber Corporation, and Disaster Relief Services Departments related to disaster management explained the preparedness of their institutions for disaster management. Additional District Secretary (Administration) Mrs.Kusum Bandara, Additional District Secretary (Lands) Mr.Dilip Nishantha, Divisional Secretaries, Security Sector Officers and a group of government officials were present on this occasion.
