Awareness is being raised regarding the preparation of the District Land Use Plan.
A meeting was held at the District Secretariat today (24) afternoon under the patronage of Kegalle District Secretary Jagath Herath to inform relevant stakeholders regarding the preparation of the District Land Use Plan and to obtain the views and suggestions of the stakeholders.
The Land Use Policy Planning Department has planned to prepare land use plans at various levels including national, district, regional and rural.
The primary objective of this is to prepare a practical plan that includes data and information as a decision-making tool at the district level regarding land resource management.
A District Land Use Plan is being prepared in accordance with the existing institutional plans of the district to facilitate decision-making in establishing sustainable land management in the district.
This process determines how land and resources will be managed in the district in the future.
With the increase in population, the demand for land for various reasons has increased, resulting in a large number of inappropriate, economically unsuitable, socially unacceptable and environmentally unsustainable land uses. Due to these factors, the need to prepare land use plans has arisen.
This program was organized by the Assistant Director of the Kegalle District Land Use Policy and Planning Department, Mrs. Upamali Wanasinghe, in collaboration with the Land Division of the District Secretariat.
Additional District Secretary (Lands) Mr. Dilip Nishantha, Divisional Secretaries, District Planning Director, heads of all institutions related to land use, and a group of people participated in this event.
