Farmers are operating on the basis of empowerment of the farmers aimed at improving food security in Kegalle district - Farmers land National Food Bog Production Committee held yesterday (17th) morning by Mr. Kanchana Welipitiya and Additional District Secretary (Idam) Dilip Nishantha. 522 hectares of paddy in Kegalle district were damaged due to inclement weather conditions. The District Agriculture Committee has decided to remove sand and soil from the paddy fields quickly. The need to be re-growed of partially damaged paddy fields are capable of providing eggs from Kegalla district itself.
Aiming for food security, the cultivations destroyed due to flooding are not required to re-apply, fencing, crops, chilli seeds and gardening kits are still working to be distributed to farming services offices.
All sectors of the agriculture sector have suffered severe damage due to inclement weather conditions but the need for more reference to consumption cultivations for required food as a district was discussed in the committee.
