The District Women's Day celebration was held today (24) under the chairmanship of the District Governor/District Secretary Mr. Ranjan Jayasinghe at the office auditorium in recognition of several successful women entrepreneurs in the Kegalle district.

Last February, the district secretary's office and the Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs jointly organized the competition to select the successful female entrepreneurs of the district, who won merit awards and participated in the competition, presented certificates to them. Mrs. R.M. Shiromi Nilmini, who works as a successful entrepreneur, as well as Ms. Kokila Hapuwita, who worked in the district secretary's office for many years and contributed to fostering the subject of women's affairs, were also honored.

Mr. Bandula Jayasinghe, Agriculture Operations Officer of Kegalle Deputy Director of Agriculture gave a lecture on food security to the women gathered for the District Women's Day celebration and Mrs. Niomali Sudasinghe, Vanitha Development Officer of Deraniyagala Divisional Secretariat, gave a practical training on preparing a nutritious meal.

In conjunction with this event, Caritas Sethmini Institute has sponsored the distribution of dry food items to 15 low-income families covering all the 11 Divisional Secretariat Divisions of the district.

Kandy Social Development Institute had given the main sponsorship for the Women's Day celebration with the intervention of NGO Coordinator Mr. Nishantha Premathilaka, while Sanasa Development Bank and National Savings Bank had also given other sponsorships.

District Vanita Development Officer Ms. Manori Dehimaduwa had organized this program.

Additional District Secretary (Administration) Dinisha S. Ratnayake, Administrative Officer Yamini Ratnayake, Managers of Sanasa Development and National Savings Banks, Vanita Development Officers of Divisional Secretariats, District and Regional Women's Board Members, Entrepreneurs, Government Officials and others attended the event.
