For the first time in Kegalle District, covering all 11 Divisional Secretariat Divisions, the "Detuwara Abhiman" District Elderly Year Festival was held at the Kegalle Police Stadium throughout the day on April 28 with the participation of the members of the regional and district elders' councils.

In this year's festival, which was started by giving priority to many Hela rituals such as saving milk, going to Negam, playing tambourine, showing many Sinhala cultural cores, breaking the kana mutti, eyeing the elephant, playing tambourine, best laugh, best cry, filling water bottle, Coconut Punching , the senior year consisted of many folk games including prince and princess selection.

Also, the beautiful dances of the elderly dancers representing all the local power boards had added a sense of wonder throughout the New Year celebration.

The District Elderly Promotion Officer Mrs. Dilani Kumari and the District Elderly Division and the District Elderly Board jointly organized this Elderly Year Festival.

District Governor/District Secretary Ranjan Jayasinghe, Additional District Secretary (Administration) Dinisha S. Rathnayake, Additional District Secretary (Lands and Development) Gamalathge Dilip Nishantha, Senior Superintendent of Police Kegalle, Senior Promotion Officers of Divisional Secretariats and a group of government officials were present on the occasion.
