A workshop for the members of the District Digital Transformation Committee was held today (19) under the chairmanship of the Minister of State for Technology Mr. Kanaka Herath at the District Secretariat Auditorium.

In order to create a digital economy by 2030, the preparation of an action plan for the first district digital transformation to be started in the island as another stage of the process to strengthen the public sector with digitization started today in Kegalle district.

Accordingly, this program is working to make the digital economic process a reality by connecting all government institutions and creating a centralized database to provide an opportunity to access data as needed, and to create an environment where all the needs of the people can be met online. Currently, 4G coverage in Kegalle district is 55% and access to the internet is 41%. The Chief Operating Officer of the Sri Lanka Information and Communication Technology Agency, Mr. Mahesh Perera, pointed out the need to increase digital literacy by taking those values to a higher level.

State Minister for Technology Mr. Kanaka Herath said that by March 30, 2024, all payments made in the public service will be made through e-payments. The Minister further said that arrangements will be made to present the plan of the District Digital Transformation Committee in the next District Development Committee.

Additional District Secretary (Administration) Dinisha S. Ratnayake, Additional District Secretary (Lands) Mr. Dilip Nishantha ,and  Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Technology Mr. A.K.R.Alawaththa. A group of officials including  Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs, Senior Manager of ICTA Mr. Manoj Hemaratne and heads of government institutions in the district were present.
