A training program for field officers and election office officials on the use of sign language was held today (25) at the district secretary's office.

Mr. Ranjana Jayasinghe, District Secretary, who attended the event, said that it is very important for government officials to have an understanding of sign language when working with deaf and dumb communities.

Kegalle Assistant Election Commissioner Sajith P. Kasturisingha, who organized the program to train officials at the district level, said that it is important for the Assistant Returning Officers and Senior Polling Station Officers to have an understanding of sign language during election duties and accordingly, the Election Department has organized programs.

Mr. Brian Susantha Kodithuvakku, President of Sri Lanka Association of the Deaf, provided resources for this program and Sign Language Interpreter, Mrs. Apeksha Wijeratne led the program. 

Field officers of the district secretariat, officers of the election office, officers of Kegalle government institutions and others were present for this occasion.
