Due to the bad weather conditions these days, a discussion on the disaster situation in the Kegalle district, the problems and the necessary solutions and plans was held today (21) in the morning at the district secretariat under the chairmanship of the Kegalle district coordination committee chairperson Mrs. Rajika Wickramasinghe and the district secretary Mr. Ranjana Jayasinghe. 

At the time of this sudden disaster, all the regional secretaries, field officers, police and the armed forces worked according to a formal plan of information flow, so it was easy to get information and the people affected by the sudden flood were rescued as soon as possible and all of them came to the disaster situation with the same mechanism. The Governor added that working according to a plan should be appreciated.

Due to the recent emergency situation, the people of Kegalle, Aranayake, Galigamuwa, Warakapola Divisional Secretariat Divisions were in a state of emergency and a flood situation in the vicinity of Kegalle city is also a special thing that can be seen here. It was also discussed about the implementation of a comprehensive plan to drain the stagnant water around Kegalle city, but it has not been able to be implemented due to various reasons.

Most of these damages have been caused to the buildings constructed without permission. Even though more than 50 vehicles have been damaged, compensation can be obtained from the relevant insurance companies only if they have been insured against natural disasters.

It was brought to the attention of the discussion that due to this bad weather condition, we had to face a flood situation mainly due to the unauthorized construction of buildings around the canals. As a result, canals overflow, bridges are blocked and damaged.

The need to pay more attention to not cutting dangerous trees and the possibility of them falling on buildings and highways and causing accidents arose here.

A matter of special attention was the inundation of the Kegalle Public Mall, the inundation of the area around the Wevaladenia Temple and the damage caused in the area around the Rangwala Bridge.

It was possible to control the flood situation within three hours and reduce the disaster situation by preparing the plans. It was discussed how to deal with the current weather conditions in the coming days.

Matters such as taking measures to remove unauthorized constructions, implementing a new city plan to prevent such a situation from occurring in the future were discussed.

On the advice and guidance of the Governor of Sabaragamuwa Province, attention was also paid to the establishment of a relief team that can operate at night to deal with any natural disaster during a government holiday or at night.
