The District Elders' Council met on January 24 at the Kegalle District Secretariat Auditorium to discuss the upcoming work plan to be implemented by the District Elders' Council for the new year 2025 and to obtain approval to implement them.

This general meeting, which was held under the patronage of Kegalle Additional District Secretary Dilip Nishantha (Land) and Assistant Secretary Malsha L. Priyadarshani, was organized by the District Elders' Promotion and Rights Officer N. Dilani Kumari.

The general meeting approved the implementation of 12 programs, one program for each month of the year. Accordingly, it was decided to hold a Bodhi Pooja at the Wewaladeniya Temple on January 31, to hold an eye clinic in Mawanella in February, to conduct a blood donation camp in March, and from this year onwards, to implement an annual ritual of visiting relatives in the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in April, representing the 11 Divisional Secretariat Divisions of the district, and as the first phase, to visit relatives in the Dehiowita Divisional Secretariat Division next April. It was also decided to hold a devotional song program in the Ruwanwella Divisional Secretariat in May, to organize a flower festival centered on Wattaram for the upcoming Poson Poya in June, to organize a poetry festival in the Bulathkohupitiya Divisional Secretariat in July, and to conduct the annual district Balamandala tour in the Bulathkohupitiya Divisional Secretariat in August.

It was also decided to use the meeting to discuss the organization of the annual attractive carnival of all the elders in the district, which is to be held at the Kegalle Town Hall in October, to be organized by the Kegalle District Secretariat, in September, and to organize a Seela / Meditation program in the Warakapola Divisional Secretariat in November and to organize a mat ceremony in the Rambukkana Divisional Secretariat in December. All these programs are organized under the supervision of the District Elders' Council under the leadership of the Regional Elders' Councils.

The District Elders' Council General Assembly meeting held on January 24 was attended by all officers of the District Elders' Division, officers of other Regional Elders' Councils, Elders' Rights Promotion Officers/Development Officers of the Divisional Secretariats and the Honorable Chairman/Secretary of the District Elders' Council.
