Under the “One handful for the farmland, one more seed for the paddy field” program, a program to introduce new generation fertilizers and educate farmers and officials on environmentally friendly cultivation was held at the Warakapola Divisional Secretariat today (14).

The total recommended gross fertilizer requirement for plantation, export, vegetable, fruit and paddy crops in the Kegalle district is about 45000 Mt, of which there is a demand of about 13000 Mt annually from farmers. However, due to various reasons, less than 10000 Mt is supplied to the district.
The objective of this program is to enhance the knowledge and attitudes of farmers regarding the application of fertilizers to crops and to contribute qualitatively and quantitatively to the national product through the use of environmentally friendly improved fertilizers.
Here, an explanation of the types of fertilizers developed by Bauer Trading Company, how to apply them and the response of the crop to them was given.
This program was organized jointly by the Fertilizer Division of the District Secretariat and the Warakapola Divisional Secretariat under the auspices of the Warakapola New National Traders.
For this occasion, Member of Parliament Manoj Kumara Rajapaksa, Warakapola Divisional Secretary Rangana Sajeewa, Kegalle District Director of Agriculture S. M. Thilakasiri, Deputy Director of the National Fertilizer Secretariat W. Sarath Sumanadasa, Deputy Director of the National Fertilizer Secretariat T. M. N. Tennakoon, representatives of the Bawara Company, farmers, officials related to the agricultural sector and others joined the event.
