Disaster Management Program for Officers in Regional Authorities

A disaster management awareness program was held yesterday (24) at the District Secretariat Auditorium for the newly elected Chairpersons, Divisional Secretaries and Police OICs of the Kegalle District.

The objective of the program was outlined by the District Secretary, Mr. Jagath Herath, and after the comments of the Kegalle DIG, Mr. Roshan Seneviratne, the Deputy Director of the District Disaster Management Unit, Mr. Mahendra Jagath, highlighted the disaster management status and preparedness in the district.

Floods, landslides and landslides mainly occur in the district, and so far in 2025, 07 houses have been completely damaged and 974 houses have been partially damaged due to disasters in the district. However, several issues including the importance of further strengthening preparedness before risks and the proper maintenance of the disaster management process by each institution, the existing problems, and updating the existing rapid mechanism to provide necessary relief to the affected people were discussed at length.

The District Disaster Management Unit and the Kegalle DIG's Office had jointly organized this program.

Additional District Secretaries, Assistant Regional Chiefs, Regional Council Secretaries, senior police officers, and officials of the Disaster Management Unit attended the event.
