Kegalle District Secretariat Internal Affairs Unit to be established.
As a major initiative in the process of curbing corruption in the public sector in Sri Lanka, implemented by the Presidential Secretariat and the Commission on Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, the establishment of an Internal Affairs Unit in the District Secretariat and an awareness raising event was recently held under the patronage of Kegalle District Secretary Jagath Herath with the aim of creating a culture that fosters transparency, accountability and integrity throughout the public sector.
It has been decided to establish Internal Affairs Units (lnternal Affairs Units –IAU) in all government ministries, departments and institutions to effectively provide all government services to all citizens.
The Internal Affairs Unit of every institution focuses on ensuring transparency and accountability in all activities of the institution, ensuring public access to information related to institutional activities and decisions, promoting ethical governance within the institution, encouraging the reporting of misconduct, protecting whistleblowers and developing a secure and accessible mechanism to maintain confidentiality, and assisting in the enforcement of laws in collaboration with law enforcement agencies and the Commission for the Investigation of Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
The role of this established Internal Affairs Unit was explained by the Additional District Secretary (Administration) Kusum Bandara, who is the Chairperson of this Unit.
Additional District Secretary (Lands) Dilip Nishantha, Assistant District Secretary Malsha L Priyadarshani, all staff officers and heads of departments of the District Secretariat were present at this awareness program.
