Kegalle District Celebration of National Early Childhood Development Week - 2025
The District Celebration of the National Early Childhood Development Week, jointly organized by the National Secretariat for Early Childhood Development and the District Secretariat under the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, was organized today (18) at the Kegalle Municipal Council Hall with the participation of a large number of preschool children.
Various programs will be organized at the national level, district level and divisional secretariat level from July 14 to 20.
Three programs were implemented in the Kegalle district under the theme "Give the little ones a chance to win the world and play". Under this, an awareness program for parents of preschool children was held under the theme "One day we will be children" covering Mawanella, Aranayake and Rambukkana divisions. Similarly, the reactivation of the rural committees on early childhood development was implemented from the Ruwanwella division, and committee officers from the Bulathkohupitiya, Deraniyagala, and Dehiowita divisions also participated in it.
The final program of this was the district celebration held today with the participation of one hundred preschool children from Kegalle, Galigamuwa, and Warakapola divisions.
For this celebration, dance performances by preschool children as well as special performances by teachers were presented.
The children were provided with the opportunity to share practical experiences under five categories namely Mathematics Circle, Gross Motor Circle, Drama and Performing Arts, Folk Sports Poetry, and Outdoor Sports Circle.
This program was organized with the assistance of the Early Childhood Development Officer, Ms. Sudarika Chandrasiri, the Early Childhood Development Officers of the Divisional Secretariats and the staff of the District Secretariat.
The Honorable Mayor of the Kegalle Municipal Council, R. J.M. Karunaratne, District Secretary Jagath Herath, Additional Government Agents, the Kegalle DIG, Warakapola and Kegalle Divisional Secretaries, staff officers of the District Secretariat, pre-school teachers, children and parents were present at the event.
