A
special coordination committee to discuss and provide solutions to issues related to transport and highway in Kegalle district was held at the District Secretariat today (01) by the Minister of Transportation Highway and Civil Aviation and Mr. Bimal Rathnayake.
Accordingly, steps were taken to establish a transport coordination committee under the leadership of Kegalla District Parliament MP Nandana Millagala to provide prompt solutions to the issues of highways and transport sector in Kegalla district.In this meeting, roads that should be developed with travelling difficulties, bus roads that were not driven due to non-profit, roads that were not driven by buses for various reasons in the past years, information related to unsafe train gates, information on locations that need road signals, other suggestions that should be developed in relation to the railway station The focus was here on service requirements, service requirements at service places related to the department of automotive transportation, ongoing issues at the National Institute of Transportation, ongoing depots.
The attention was also given here on the need to prepare the road safety plan for 2025-2026 years.
The minister noted that Rabukkana has been identified as a railway station that should be renovated in Kegalle district and informed the relevant sectors to take immediate action towards it.
The minister also said that he is working to provide Rs 250 million in addition to grants received this year for road development activities in Kegalle district.
For this meeting, Sabaragamu Provincial Governor District Coordination Co-Chairman Mrs. Champa Janaki, Environment Minister Kegalle District Coordination Committee Chairman Mr. Dhammika Patabande including Kegalle District Political Authority Chief Secretary of the Provincial Council, Ministry Secretaries including Kegalle District Coordination, Staff Officers and Provincial Secretaries And a group of officers from state institutions involved in the highway subject gathered together.
