A meeting of the Tourism Development Committee was held today (13) at the District Secretariat Auditorium with the primary objective of creating a tourism plan based on the tourism industry in Kegalle district.
Kegalle district is already popular among local and foreign tourists only with Pinnawala and Kithulgala as the center. Hence promote other tourist spots in the district
Intake is an important area to focus on at the moment.
Accordingly, this committee is headed by the district committee and consists of regional sub-committees and is expected to get ideas and suggestions from the ground level.
Ms. Indika Senaratne, Director of District Planning (W.P.) who spoke here, briefly explained the facts about the tourism potential of the district. Accordingly, she pointed out the need to popularize attractions under six categories of religious places, natural environment, cultural and historical, adventure activities, home care services and waterfalls and natural pools.
134.5 million has been received for a total of 31 projects including 64.37 million for 20 projects for the promotion of Kithulgala Pinnawala Tourism Zone for the year 2024. And 1825 .75 million is expected for 91 projects for 2026. She further pointed out the importance of promoting the tourism industry through promotion and formal rules and regulations by developing infrastructure with the support of rural people.
This committee is chaired by Honorable Member of Parliament Mr. Manoj Rajapaksa, District Governor, District Planning Director, Divisional Secretary or Planning Director, Chairman of Regional Councils, Secretary of Tourism Ministry of Sabaragamu Provincial Council, and a nominated officer of Urban Development Authority. Accordingly, with the support of Sabaragamuwa University's Department of Tourism Management, a formal tourism plan will be prepared based on the information obtained at the regional level under consideration of the district leader.
Kegalle District Members of Parliament, Honorary Presidents of Regional Councils, District Secretary Jagath Herath, District Planning Director (Retd) Indika Senaratne, Divisional Secretaries and officials of many organizations related to the tourism sector were present on this occasion.
