A special meeting to investigate the issues related to the small tea garden sector in Kegalle district was held yesterday (12) at the District Secretariat Auditorium under the leadership of Environment Minister Mr. Dhammika Patabandhe.

There is a need for fertilizer subsidies for 2026, lawsuit for 68% of small tea estate owners that supply grabs, receiving low interest investment loans through banking systems for tea regeneration, damaging tea land/tea tawans damaged by hurricane Ditwa, tea plant tawans Introduction of additional entrepreneurship, including the introduction of tea regeneration, the not sufficient incentives for tea regeneration, the need to coordinate an integrated access of all institutions when tea cultivation-related cultivation.

Distribution of fertilizer for tea farms in Kegalle district has currently made more than 90% progress and the need to update the QR technique currently being used to meet the rest of the requirement. Also focused here on tea growers and small tea estate associations, local political representatives and the use of the Grama Shakti Committee for it. Also, the vacancy of officers currently in the small tea garden sector of the district can be met after a competitive examination. One of those officers will be able to further efficient with technical knowledge and service providing ability to reduce practical difficulties of inspecting an existing large environment. Also, plans were also made here to expensate the compensation system for small tea gardens and plants damaged by hurricane Ditwa.
