The District Child and Women Development Committee met today with the aim of taking decisions on the issues that need to be resolved within the scope presented to the District Child and Women Development Committees by the Divisional Secretariat Divisional Committees. Also, among the issues presented to the District Committee, as discussed at the Kegalle Regional Drug Prevention Committee, the use of betel nut is common among school children using public transport and the Public Health Officer suggested that the police inspect the buses during that time and take necessary action. The issue was brought to the attention of the relevant officers at the District Committee and further action was discussed. The absence of an Early Childhood Development Center with the necessary equipment for activities carried out under formal training for pre-school children with special needs between the ages of 3 - 5 and the establishment of such centers in zones were discussed there.

Also, discussions were held on the non-processing of birth certificates of children due to various reasons, especially in the estate community of Division 11 of the Divisional Secretariat, and the resolution of the existing problems and their resolution, and the problems faced by children attending and not attending schools associated with government or private estates in the Divisional Secretariat Division (lack of infrastructure facilities in schools; lack of toilet facilities; drugs; nutritional problems; family disputes; transportation problems; drinking water problems; lack of interest in children; ignorance of parents; lack of a good environment at home to carry out educational activities; lack of secondary schools associated with estates; parents going abroad; long-term disabilities; economic problems).

In addition, the External Services Assistant of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (Kegalla District) S. C. Thotawattage presented the progress made from 01/01/2026 to 30/04/2026.
