The Kegalle Volleyball Festival 2026 commenced this morning (18) at the Kegalle Public Indoor Stadium under the patronage of the Chairman of the Kegalle District Coordination Committee and Minister of Environment, Mr. Dhammika Patabendi, and the Kegalle District Secretary, Mr. K.G.S. Nishantha.

The festival, which began today, features a series of volleyball tournaments under several categories. The Government Institutions Volleyball Tournament commenced today, while the Schools Volleyball Tournament will be held on June 25, the Community Strength Sports Clubs Tournament on July 4 and 5, and the Estate Sports Clubs Tournament on July 12.

A total of 10 women's teams and 9 men's teams are competing in today's Government Institutions Tournament. Teams representing the Kegalle District Secretariat, Divisional Secretariat Offices, and other government institutions within the Kegalle District are participating in the competition. Following several exciting and highly competitive matches, the finals of the Government Institutions Volleyball Tournament are scheduled to be held on July 12.

The tournament is jointly organized by the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council, Kegalle District Secretariat, Sabaragamuwa Provincial Ministry of Sports, Kegalle Volleyball Association, Kegalle Volleyball Club, and the Department of Sports Development of the Sabaragamuwa Province.

Among those present at the opening ceremony were Kegalle Mayor Mr. Nimal Karunaratne, the two Additional District Secretaries of Kegalle, the Divisional Secretary of Deraniyagala, sports officers, athletes, and a large gathering of invitees.
