The District Agricultural Development Committee, which functions as a subcommittee of the District Coordinating Committee, met yesterday (11) at the Auditorium of the District Secretariat.

The meeting aimed to review and discuss the current progress of agricultural development programmes in the district, identify existing issues and solutions, consider new proposals, and take necessary steps to bring relevant matters to the national level.

Special attention was given to cultivable lands and uncultivated lands in the district, maximizing yields through the use of appropriate modern agricultural technologies, proper storage of produce, and identifying market opportunities for farmers.

The meeting also focused particularly on preparing farmers for the anticipated El Niño conditions by conducting awareness programmes and identifying new areas suitable for cultivation.

The programme was organized by the District Director of Agriculture, Mrs. Anoma Senarathna, together with the relevant agricultural authorities.

Kegalle District Member of Parliament Mr. Kanchana Welipitiya, District Secretary Mr. K. G. S. Nishantha, and officials representing the Provincial Department of Agriculture, Department of Agrarian Development, Department of Export Agriculture, Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, fertilizer companies, and numerous other institutions connected with the agricultural sector participated in the meeting.
