President Ranil Wickramasinghe commissioned the 'Asupini Ella Water Scheme' in Kegalle Aranayaka yesterday (20) afternoon.

This water scheme under the financial allocation of 3,847 million rupees from the government of Sri Lanka and the loan assistance of 18,650 million rupees from the Dutch government, providing solutions to the drinking water problem in 135 village official domains belonging to the local secretariat divisions of Aranayake, Mawanella and Rambukkana in Kegalle district implemented.

The construction works of Asupini Ella Water Scheme started in 2018 and under the supervision of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board under the guidance of the Ministry of Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development.

A water treatment plant with a capacity of 21,000 cubic meters per day, 07 service reservoirs, a transmission pipeline system of 37 km and a distribution pipeline system of 120 km have been constructed under this project, covering 52,300 families and about 169,000 people. Clean and safe piped water facilities will be provided under which 25,200 new water connections will be provided and 27,100 existing water connections will be improved.

Minister of Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development Jeevan Thondaman, Minister of State for Water Supply Sanath Nishantha, Minister of State for Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Minister of State for Technology and Research Kanaka Herath, Minister of State for External Affairs Taraka Balasuriya and Members of Parliament Kabir Hashim, Rajika Wickramasinghe, Sujith Sanjay Perera, Udayakantha Gunathilaka, District Political Authority, Dutch Ambassador to Sri Lanka Bonnie Hoback and Turkish Ambassador Demet Sarkashuli, and a large number of government officials participated.
