The Kegalle District Disability Day celebration, which was organized for the first time on the occasion of the International Day of Disability on December 03, was held yesterday (07) morning at the Kegalle Municipal Council Hall.

The festival was colorful with many colorful elements from the disabled community including the children of Mawanella Ashokapura Special School, Ambanpitiya Disabled Rehabilitation Home as well as the Divisional Secretariat Divisions of the district who sang, danced, acted, played and had various artistic abilities.

In conjunction with this event, Gayani Laksika, who passed the 2022 O/L  examination with distinction and is currently studying as a first-year physically challenged student at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Colombo, and who won the first place in the island in the 2023 five-year scholarship examination among the visually impaired students at Ussapitiya Sri Sumangala Maha Vidyalaya. A special prize was also given to the student Olitha Yenul, and prizes were also given to all the disabled children who joined the occasion.

Financial sponsorship for this year's Kegalle District Disability Day celebration was provided by non-governmental organizations such as People's Development Foundation, DEVPRO Institute, ORHAN Institute, Berandina Community Development Institute and Musaco.

This program was organized under the leadership of District Social Service Officer Mr. Sarath Ranaweera, District Social Service Division, District Self-Employment Board and Social Service Officers of all Divisional Secretariats and District Secretariat Field Officers and other officials.

On that occasion, District Governor/District Secretary Ranjana Jayasinghe, Additional District Secretary (Administration) K.G.S. Nishantha, Mawanella Divisional Secretary Wijayani Ratnesekera, staff officers of the District Secretariat, Kegalle Assistant Divisional Secretary,  Station Officer on behalf of the Director of Social Services Mr.Priyantha, Senior Social Service Officer (Provincial Social Service Department) Mr. S.A. Jayantha, government officials, members of the District Swashakti Balamandalaya, parents of disabled children and many others were present.
