The social service officer progress review and Swashakti district committee meeting to review the progress of the various programs implemented to improve the living conditions of the disabled met today (12) under the chairmanship of the Additional District Secretary (Administration) Mr. K. G. S. Nishantha at the District Secretariat Auditorium.

Accordingly, the district council meeting started with the presentation of the last term's report and the budget report. Then the current status of the Self-Employment Fund and the pilgrimage of people with disabilities who built houses were discussed.

The Kegalle district is ahead of other districts in terms of employment placements and matters were discussed regarding the referral of persons with disabilities for the employment placement program to be held on July 11. It was discussed about the progress of information inclusion in the rehabilitation plan that is happening these days and it was revealed that the data and information of the disabled in all the divisional secretariats should be completed in the month of June and 7344 disabled people have been identified in the entire district.

Attention was also paid to providing information about the damages caused to those who are currently disabled during the floods and landslides that occurred in the year 2024 and those who suffered disabilities due to disasters. It was also announced that a district pool will be established by identifying those who can play musical instruments among those with disabilities who have artistic skills.

Apart from this, the programs conducted through the Provincial Social Services Department, the current progress of the self-esteem program, eight skill development centers for children with disabilities are expected to be built this year and their progress was examined. Also, the current progress of the various programs implemented such as directing young people with disabilities for vocational training, providing life support, Dream Sri Lanka, and providing assistance to kidney patients were further discussed.
