A discussion was held today (13) at the District Secretariat Auditorium about the programs to be run by the District and Regional Cultural Power Boards.

First of all, Additional District Secretary Mr. K. G. S. Nishantha explained the objectives and after welcoming the people present, the report of the previous meeting was presented to the meeting by Mr. Sunil Gamlath, Secretary of the Cultural Power Board.

Mrs. S. Herath, Sabaragamuwa Provincial Senior Officer of the Social Security Division, explained the procedures to be followed in providing social security pensions for artists.

Applications have been received for the Kalabhushan Award ceremony which is jointly organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs and the Departments of Hindu Religious Affairs, Muslim Religious Affairs and Christian Religious Affairs to honor the great artists with state awards and through the examination of the applications, five artists have been selected for the Kegalle district. 

The Kegalu District Literary Festival and how to organize regional literary festivals were also discussed here.

This program was organized by the division including the District Cultural Officer Mrs. Kanchana Wijeratne.

A group of cultural officials from regional secretariats, officials of regional cultural power boards and others attended the event.
