A training program on the preparation of rural development plans through the Integrated Rural Development Program was held on 23 04 2025 at the Kegalle District Secretariat Auditorium.

This one-day awareness program was organized by the Assistant Director (Planning) of the Kegalle District Secretariat. Mrs. A. J. S. K. Madhurasinghe. This program, which was held under the supervision of the Director of the District Planning Division, Mr. A. A. Weerakoon, was inaugurated by the District Secretary / Government Agent, Mr. H. M. J. M. Herath.
The Ministry of Rural Development has recommended and made awareness raising campaigns to prepare these plans covering every Grama Niladhari Division at the district level, representing every district in Sri Lanka, and the Ministry of Rural Development has also allocated Rs. 10,000 /= each for the preparation of a development plan for each Grama Niladhari Division.
An island-wide awareness workshop was held on 14-15 March to inform all districts of Sri Lanka about this program, which is being implemented as a five-year long-term program. The Planning Director and three officers of the District Planning Division, representing the Kegalle District, participated in this workshop, and on 23 April 2025, the relevant officers of the Divisional Secretariat Division 11 of the Kegalle District were informed by the trained officers.
The District Planning Division Director Mr.A. A. Weerakoon said that this is an integrated rural development program that is implemented as a theme based on the needs of the rural people, identifying the needs for achieving future achievements, the problems and demands of the rural people, identifying the resources, human resources, physical resources and future investment needs of each district, and how to direct future development objectives. After the plans are prepared for implementation at the Divisional Secretariat Division and Grama Niladhari Division levels, the necessary provisions will be provided based on the recommendations of the Ministry of Rural Development.
The Assistant Divisional Secretaries, Technical Officers, and Development Officers who will be informed through this workshop representing the Divisional Secretariat Divisions will inform the Technical Officers, Development Officers, and Grama Niladhari Divisions of the Grama Seva Divisions and take steps to prepare these development plans relevant to each Grama Seva Division, Planning Director Mr.A. A. Weerakoon further said that steps will be taken to prepare these development plans for each Grama Seva Division.
Deputy Director of the Mawanella Divisional Secretariat Mr.U. K. Priyantha Pushpakumara (Planning), Deputy Director of the Kegalle District Secretariat Mrs.M. P. Indika Senaratne (Planning), and Assistant Director (Planning) Mrs.M. A. J. S. Madhurasinghe participated as resource persons to educate the officers who attended this program. Assistant Divisional Secretaries of the Divisional Secretariat Divisions, Technical Officers and Development Officers participated to make this workshop a success.
