The District Children and Women Committee, which is looking into the programs implemented for the welfare and safety of children and women in the district for the second quarter of this year, met today (23) at the District Secretariat Auditorium.

Accordingly, attention was paid to a number of areas including nutrition, health and mental development, drug prevention, child abuse, education, trust, safety and socialization of institutionalized children, street children, elimination of child labor and other institutional programs as well as local problems at the divisional level.

It was stated here that child abuse is common in the home as well as by close or close relatives, and especially children between the ages of 12-16 are at high risk of abuse.

Due to this, it was emphasized that the education of students and their parents should be further active at the school level, and for that, education should be done covering law, police, health, counseling and other sectors.

It was further discussed in this meeting that by identifying the most vulnerable families in the district secretariats, probation officers, children and women officers will go to those homes and monitor them and everyone's cooperation should be needed to save children and women from violence and abuse.

On that occasion, District Governor/ District Secretary Ranjana Jayasinghe, Additional District Secretary (Control) Dinisha S. Rathnayake, District Development Director T.A.P.Kusumsiri, District Planning Director Mr. A.A.Weerakoon, police, probation, education, early childhood, social services, labor, counselling, foreign employment, non-government and many other fields were present.
