According to a request made to the Department of Social Services to conduct a census of wandering beggars in urban areas and provide a report by the Parliamentary Committee on Methods and Procedures, the census work was started on 05.09.2023 in all municipal council areas across the island.

Simultaneously, the census of beggars was conducted within the jurisdiction of Kegalle Municipal Council with the participation of the officers of the social services, children and Woman departments of the district secretaries and Kegalle divisional secretaries.
