The District Culture Board met yesterday (21) under the chairmanship of  Assistant District Secretary Mrs. Malsha L. Priyadarshani based on the appointment of new officers of the District Cultural Council, discussing the programs to be implemented in the future this year.

The service of the former officials of the district cultural committee who made a great commitment to uplift the culture of Kegalle district was appreciated and a new official board was appointed for the next three years.

The post of chairman of the district cultural authority is held by the district secretary ex officio and Mr. Sunil Kumara Gamlath was appointed for the post of secretary. Vice President Mr. N. M. P. Gunaratne, Undersecretary Mr. Hemachandra, Treasurer Mr. Senarath Pathagama were appointed by motion. A committee was also appointed to represent all cultural bodies in the district.

Attention was also paid to many matters that should be acted upon by the cultural authorities in the future. Accordingly, the importance of establishing cultural information centers at the divisional level with the aim of increasing the attraction of local and foreign tourists and preserving the cultural heritage of the district was discussed here.

As Kegalle district is home to a group of excellent artists in every field, it is our duty to preserve art for the next generation and the need to direct the future generation to it was highlighted here. Accordingly, it was discussed here to hold a workshop on Gok Kola art, to hold a drama workshop, and to hold an exhibition targeting school students.

A short drama competition is going to be held to represent all the 11 regional cultural councils and the best actor, best actress and best drama script will be judged and awarded at the district literature festival.
