An awareness discussion about maintaining a service corridor during road development was held under the chairmanship of Mr. Mahinda S. Weerasuriya, Chief Secretary of Sabaragamuwa Province.

Service Corridor of a road means the surface and depth of land parallel to the road on both sides of the road for water, electricity and gas services provided to the public on both sides of the road.

By maintaining a service corridor, there are many advantages such as the ability to get all the services from one place, the time and effort required to install the services is reduced, the inconvenience to the public is reduced, road blockages are reduced and it is easier to plan future constructions.

Although it is problematic to construct a new service corridor on the existing roads, the possibility of planning a service corridor for the newly constructed roads was discussed in this meeting.

For this occasion, Kegalle Additional District Secretary (Lands) Gamalatge Dilip Nishantha, District Planning Director A.A. Weerakoon and other governing bodies, Road Development Authority, Water Supply Board, Central Environment Authority, Electricity Board, Sri Lanka Telecom, etc. A group of officers and others were present.
