Establishing the "Janasabha" to strengthen participatory democracy is a confirmation of optimal citizen involvement in the formulation of public policies as well as in the implementation of public policies. Aiming at that, "Janasabha" will be established to cover all the 25 districts of the island and under the pilot project of Kegalle district, the model Janasabha was established yesterday (22) at Dippitiya Muslim College, centered on Wilapola area of Aranayak Divisional Secretariat Division.

The basic aspiration of establishing the "Janasabha" system is to create a level playing field with equal opportunities for all citizens to contribute to the policy making of their village and country without being discriminated in any way.

Accordingly, the establishment of the Janasabha related to the Wilapola domain took place yesterday and video tapes containing the greetings of the Janasabha Secretary and Honorable Mr. Karu Jayasuriya were also presented here. Also, an explanatory video about the Janasabha system was also made with the participation of the Director (Operational Research and Development) lawyer, Mr. Asanka Hettiarachchi.

After that, matters were discussed about the appointment of the committee of the Janasabha related to Wilapola area, getting the opinions and suggestions of the participants and the role of the committee and future activities.

District Governor/ District Secretary Mr. Ranjana Jayasinghe, Aranayaka Divisional Secretary Mrs. Vijani Ratnasekara, District Planning Director Mr. A.A. Weerakoon and Deputy and Assistant Planning Directors of the District Planning Division, Janasabha Secretariat Officers, Police Officers, Aranayaka Divisional Secretariat Officers, all the government officials representing the Wilpola domain, villagers and others were present on this occasion.
