From Matara Akurassa main bus stand to Jaffna Mr. S. Balakumara, a marathon runner who lives in Paraduwa Akuressa will start the 54th day, from Wevaladenia Viharaya this morning (20) with the aim of setting a world record by walking 3089 KM.

This walk, which started from Matara Akurassa last September 25, is planned to be completed in less than 60 days and the walk is scheduled to be completed by covering all the districts of the island.

The aim of the walk is to bless the Sangha Ratna, to pay tribute to the war heroes who died for the freedom of the country, and to seek peace for all Sri Lankans.

For this occasion, Kegalle Wevaladenia Sri Mahindodaya Vidya Pirwane Vidyapati, Shastrevedi Asmadale Dhammarathana Thero, officials of the sports department of the District Secretariat and Regional Secretariat, police officers and a group of school athletes also came together for this occasion.
