In conjunction with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which falls on December 3, 2024, the Social Service Officer Progress Meeting and the Swashakthi District Council Meeting were held today (03) at the Kegalle District Secretariat Auditorium under the patronage of Kegalle Additional District Secretary (Administration) K.G.S. Nishantha.

It was also discussed to present a few limited special performances representing the Divisional Secretariat Divisions and to make the day meaningful, to select a person living in each Divisional Secretariat Division, representing the 11 Divisional Secretariats, who is engaged in some self-employment or has shown any special talent, and to present him or her with a prize and certificate, and to select a student from a disabled family who has completed the educational cut-off and to present a cash prize of about Rs. 5000/= as decided in today's session of the council (children who have completed the educational cut-off are students who have passed the scholarship, passed the GCE (O-Level), (A-Level) and have obtained university admission) and to organize a special excursion for the disabled living in the Divisional Secretariat Divisions.

The District Social Services Officer of the Kegalle District Secretariat, Mr. Sarath Ranaweera, and all the Social Services Officers of that division, all the Social Services Officers of the Divisional Secretariats, the Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and all the Committee Officers of the Disabled Self-Help Divisional Boards participated in this event.

Concurrently, the District Social Service Officer Progress Meeting was held, where the district progress made as of August according to the 2024 Annual Action Plan was presented to the council and discussed. Social Service Officers from the Divisional Secretariats participated in this event.
