The first District Coordination Committee of the new government was held today (12) at the District Secretariat auditorium under the patronage of the new Chairman, Minister of Environment Dr. H. P. Dhamimika.

The impact of the Relawn on the crops and lives of the people in the Kegalle district was among the main issues that arose here. Expressing his views in this regard, the Chairman of the Coordination Committee said that the special attention of the new government has been paid to resolving this issue. He further said that urgent steps will be taken without political gains.

Kegalle District is a district with natural beauty as well as a district that is subject to environmental impacts. Minister of Environment H. P. Dhammika said that attention will be paid to preparing a systematic program in the future to protect the environmentally sensitive zones in the Daraniyagala, Yatiyanthota, and Aranayake Divisional Secretariat Divisions.

The progress of the district development programs implemented in the year 2024, the progress of the development plan implemented by the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council, the payment of the district's welfare benefits, issues related to the health sector in the district, the security situation in the district and drug prevention, the district disaster plan, the progress of housing projects, and the progress of the road development program were also discussed here.

In the past month, 184 dengue patients have been reported in the district and 8 deaths have been reported this year. It was revealed that in addition to farmers and those involved in the agricultural sector, there are also opportunities for other people to contract the disease and the need to take necessary measures for that. Although the spread of dengue has been successfully controlled compared to last year, the need for systematic dengue prevention activities in the coming months was also discussed here.

It was stated that steps will be taken to convene regional coordination committees very soon before the end of this year and accordingly, problems arising at the regional level can be presented to the district coordination committee next year.

Weerasuriya, Kegalle District Secretary Ranjana Jayasinghe, Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Ministry Secretaries, Additional District Secretaries, Divisional Secretaries, District Planning Director A. A. Weerakoon, Kegalle District Heads of State Institutions, Police Officers and a group of government officials participated in this event.
