A special meeting was held today (17) at the District Secretariat Auditorium with the aim of bringing together all the institutions related to the agricultural sector for the advancement of agriculture in the Kegalle District and establishing a joint agricultural development plan.

Accordingly, initial drafts were prepared here to establish an output-based plan related to agriculture in the district, first a one-year plan and then a five-year plan with reference to agriculture. It was discussed that although the input targets were already being met in the district, more attention should be paid to achieving the output targets.

Also, it was identified as a primary objective to elevate the agriculture of the district to the export market by making the agricultural and industrial sectors self-sufficient.

Accordingly, it will be continued to obtain more benefits by implementing the respective programs implemented by all government institutions and departments related to the agricultural sector under the same objective.

Along with obtaining the relevant data, the next meeting will be held to discuss the issues related to this joint plan at length.

The District Agriculture Division including District Agriculture Director M, S. Thilakasiri had organized this program.

Weerakoon, Deputy Planning Director Sajini Ranasinghe, heads of agricultural services, deputy agriculture, animal products and health, export agriculture, aquatic life, and the Heartland Authority and a group of people participated in the event.
