The District Agriculture Committee, which examines the progress of agriculture in the Kegalle District, met at the District Secretariat today (11) afternoon under the chairmanship of Additional District Secretary (Lands) Dilip Nishantha.

The Additional District Secretary said that everything is ready for the wild animal census and that the maximum cooperation of the officers should be provided for obtaining accurate information.
On the fifteenth of this month, between 8.00 am and 8.05 am, the animals coming to their garden or office premises should be counted and recorded on the relevant form provided and the form should be given to the Grama Niladhari, Economic Development Officer or Agricultural Research and Production Assistant, said District Agriculture Director S.M. Thilakasiri.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Plantations and Community Infrastructure informed the Agriculture Committee that in the future, steps will be taken not to provide coconut lands for non-agricultural activities and it was revealed that even when removing coconut trees that are in a dangerous condition, the recommendation of the officers of the Coconut Cultivation Board should be obtained.
The Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Agriculture said that it is possible to increase the yield of paddy cultivation by cultivating fallow fields as well as by using new technologies and techniques in the currently cultivated fields. She further stated that the necessary work is currently being done to cultivate 57 acres of fallow fields and that the necessary work is being done to test the soil and apply fertilizer to increase the yield of the currently cultivated unit.
