The National Amateur Sports Tournament for the Disabled 2025 organized by the Department of Social Services of the Ministry of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment was held at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Diyagama, Homagama on 03rd March recently.
Nine competitors representing the Kegalle District qualified for the tournament and three of them managed to win three All-Ceylon victories.
Accordingly, Thisara Jayasinghe of the Dehiowita Divisional Secretariat Division, who competed under the category of persons with reduced trunk and limb function, won first place in the javelin throw event and second place in the discus throw event. Also, M.M.M. Asman of the Mawanella Divisional Secretariat, who competed in the fully visually impaired category, won the second place in the entire Sri Lanka in the discus throwing event.
The first place winner was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 20,000, prizes and certificates, while the second place winner was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 15,000, prizes and certificates.
We extend our warmest congratulations to all the athletes who brought the national level victory to the Kegalle district under the coordination of the District Social Services Officer, Mr. Sarath Ranaweera, and the social services officers.
