The Kegalle District Social Service Officers Progress Meeting was held on 16 May 2025 at the Kegalle District Secretariat Auditorium under the patronage of Kegalle District Secretary/Government Agent Mr.H. M. J. M. Herath and Additional District Secretary Mrs. T. Kusum Bandara.

The meeting was held with the aim of discussing the District Council of Persons with Disabilities, CBR and ESPD programs, raising awareness about the duties of the Provincial Social Service Ministry, presenting the progress at the Divisional Secretariat Divisional level in the year 2024, and discussing future activities regarding disability and kidney disease allowances.
In addition to the list of active duties assigned by the Department of Social Services, a large number of group projects and special projects are being implemented, and based on the progress of those additional programs, the achievements of Kegalle District in the 2024 Swabhimani Competition from the entire island include the following: District Social Service Officer of the Kegalle District Secretariat, Mr. D. Sarath Ranaweera, won first place as the best district officer, Ms. K. Aruna Shanthi, Social Service Officer of the Bulathkohupitiya Divisional Secretariat, won first place as the best regional officer, and S. C. N.Karunaratne, Social Service Officer of the Kegalle General Hospital, won first place as the best hospital officer. , the Chairman of the 'Gemunu' Swashakti Organization of the Rambukkana Divisional Secretariat, Mahinda Jayathilaka, came second for the Best Self-Shakti Organization, and the Best New Design for Persons with Disabilities (Open) was won by Mr. H. D. K. Anura Sandaruwan Priyawansa, a disabled youth from the Deraniyagala Divisional Secretariat, who came third for the Best New Design for Persons with Disabilities. The District Secretary said that it is a matter of great appreciation and satisfaction to have such talented officers in the district.
He also said that social service officers have great potential and work capacity and are a group of officers who are recognized by the society and that they should perform their duties with great understanding especially when dealing with the elderly and the community with special needs, and that they should act as a job, service and duty that can be happily helped by those groups. In addition, it was decided to establish a sales center in Pinnawala to sell creative new products and decorative items of the disabled community to local and foreign tourists.
The event was attended by Provincial Senior Social Service Officer Mrs.Indumala Abeysiri Wardhana, Social Service Officers and Development Officers of the Central Government and Provincial Public Service, District Social Service Officer of the Social Service Division of the District Secretariat, Mr. D. Sarath Ranaweera, officers of that division, and members of the Swashakthi District Balamandalas of the Disabled.
