The Disaster Management Division of the Kegalle District Secretariat is already on the alert to face the disaster situations affecting many districts across the island with the activation of the monsoon rains, as was seen with the distribution of equipment to 17 police stations in the Kegalle District 29th May.
On the instructions of the Kegalle District Secretary/Government Agent Mr.H. M. J. M. Herath, the distribution of the necessary equipment kits to the police stations was carried out at the auditorium premises of the Kegalle Police under the leadership of the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Kegalle District, Mr.S. M. Y. Seneviratne.
The Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Division of the District Secretariat, This good deed and duty was accomplished with the full dedication of Mr. K. G.Mahendra Jagath and all the officers of the division.
One of the objectives of this is to provide the necessary training and awareness to minimize the disaster situations caused by the rains that are becoming active these days and to activate the disaster management teams and provide the necessary response.
The Disaster Management Division took steps to manage and distribute essential items to the police in the Aranayake, Deraniyagala, Bulathkohupitiya Divisional Secretariat Divisions of the Kegalle District, which are constantly exposed to disasters, especially floods and landslides, and other divisions.
Accordingly, items such as chain saws, throwing bags, mana catheches, life jackets, raincoats, helmets with head lights, tarpaulin sheets, sanitizer cans, pairs of gloves, torches, spray machines, rubber boots, safety goggles, megaphones, etc. were distributed to 17 police stations in the respective Divisional Secretariats, namely Aranayake, Mawanella, Hemmathagama, Kegalle, Rambukkana, Pindeniya, Devalegama, Dedigama, Warakapola, Bulathkohupitiya, Dehiowita, Deraniyagala, Ruwanwella, Yatiyanthota, Nooriya, Galapitamada, and Kitulgala.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Kegalle Division, the OICs of 17 police stations and all officers of the District Disaster Management Division participated in this event.
