I never say I am crazy. We call others crazy. They in turn call us crazy. In this sense, we are all crazy. So there is a mental health problem in it. Are we really crazy? Or not?

A training program for field development officers in the Kegalle district with the aim of referring patients with mental health problems but who are not receiving treatment for treatment was held on ^30th May at the District Secretariat auditorium under the patronage of Kegalle Additional District Secretary Dilip Nishantha. The main objective of this program was to educate 10 Development Officers working in Grama Niladhari Divisions from each Divisional Secretariat Division, representing the 11 Divisional Secretariat Divisions of Kegalle, Mawanella, Aranayake, Rambukkana, Galigamuwa, Warakapola, Yatiyanthota, Bulathkohupitiya, Ruwanwella, Deraniyagala, Aranayake, Dehiowita, and to educate the patients with mental health problems in the district and systematically refer them to clinics.
To equip these development officers with knowledge, Psychiatrist Dr. Anoma Jayasinghe, District General Hospital, Kegalle, as resource persons on "How to identify a mental illness"; Psychiatrist Dr. Surangi Jayaratne, Base Hospital, Mawanella, on "Identifying mental problems in adolescents"; "Promotion of Mental Health in the District" Medical Officer Suranjanika Gunathilaka, District Health Services Director's Office, Kegalle; "Sensitization on Friend Piyasa and Youth Piyasa" Dr. Kasun Jayaratne, Medical Officer, Reproductive Health Unit participated and the District Personality Development Counselor, Mrs. Renuka Jayaratne, acted as the Resource Coordinator for this program organized by the District Training Unit.
The program held that day concluded as a successful program that provided good training to these development officers to educate patients with mental health problems in the district.
Environment Day, Environmental Management
In conjunction with the mental health training workshop on mental health issues held that day, the afternoon was dedicated to explaining the importance of environmental management in relation to the International Environment Day falling on June 05. In conjunction with World Environment Day, the period from May 30 to June 05 has been named "Environment Week". Accordingly, the development officers present were informed about the theme of World Environment Day 2025, "End Plastic Pollution", and the legal situation in Sri Lanka regarding polythene and plastic by Mrs. K. M. D. M. Karunanayake, Senior Environmental Officer of the Central Environmental Authority. She participated in this program as a resource person and introduced the discussion on the "National Environment Act No. 47 of 1980 (as amended by Acts No. 53 of 2000 and No. 56 of 1988)" and the legal benefits available in Sri Lanka for the need for environmental protection, environmental status, and environmental management. Both these programs, which were held throughout the day, ended as very successful programs.
