The series of environmental exhibitions and awareness programs to be held from today to the 5th under the initiative of the Department of Wildlife Conservation in conjunction with World Environment Day was opened on 03rd June afternoon at the Kegalle Municipal Council Hall under the patronage of the Hon. Deputy Minister of Environment, Anton Jayakody.
Information on animals such as the bear, deer, cheetah, and crocodile that protect the ecological balance is also included here. The exhibition stalls of government and non-government institutions such as the Central Environmental Authority, the Department of Forest Conservation, the State Timber Corporation, the Water Resources Board, the Department of National Zoological Gardens, the Young Zoologists' Association of Sri Lanka, the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau, the Department of National Botanic Gardens, as well as several entrepreneurs in the district, have also been presented here.
The exhibition stall belonging to the Department of Wildlife Conservation presented at the exhibition ground provides detailed information on the wild cat, the leopard, the green leopard, and the tiger belonging to the bilala family in the Sabaragamuwa province.
In addition, awareness programs will be held at this exhibition with exhibits on marine life such as sea lions, dolphins, lobsters and turtles.
Furthermore, awareness programs will be held in parallel with this exhibition to save tigers caught in the wild, which are common in the Sabaragamuwa Province, to raise awareness about the measures to be taken to minimize tiger-human conflict, and to raise awareness about the need to conserve such valuable animals that are facing the threat of extinction.
The event was attended by a group of people including Kegalle District Parliamentarian Ms. Sagarika Athauda, the political authority, the Kegalle Government Agent, Additional District Secretaries, the Director General of Wildlife, heads of various institutions under the Ministry of Environment and government officials.
