The District Internal Audit Committee met on 11th June at the District Secretariat auditorium under the chairmanship of District Secretary/Government Agent Mr.Jagath Herath.
This meeting was organized this time as well based on several issues including the follow-up of the matters discussed in the previous Audit Management Committee and the progress in implementing the recommendations of the Accounts Committee.
Accordingly, the first focus of the committee held today was on the new Internal Audit Guidelines. Accordingly, instead of the 2019 (1) Internal Audit Guidelines used so far, the new 2025 (1) Internal Audit Guidelines were explained. In this regard, the Deputy Director of the Management Audit Department, Ms. Gayathri Ganepola, explained the meaning of internal audit, how it is empowered, its importance, independence and the composition of the new Audit Management Committee, including special matters.
The balances exceeding two years in relation to the General Deposit Account, the Samurdhi Isuru Loan Program, and the physical and financial progress related to inactive Grama Shakthi accounts were also examined at length.
The importance of expediting the survey of goods and vehicles in offices, educating officials about the Bribery and Corruption Investigation Act and the Procurement Act, as well as the importance of bringing to the attention of this committee matters that are difficult to resolve through the existing standing committees at the regional and district levels was further highlighted.
The meeting was organized by the District Internal Audit Division including the Chief Internal Auditor Mrs.Thushari Jayawardena.
