The District and All-Island Students’ Competency Awards Ceremony, organized to honour the students of Kegalle District who achieved victories at the District and All-Island levels during the years 2024 and 2025, was held yesterday (30) at the auditorium of Wattarama Sri Arahath Maliyadeva Rajamaha Viharaya.
Accordingly, special certificates and awards were presented to seven students who achieved All-Island victories in 2024 and 2025. Special commemorative awards were also presented to the respective Dhamma schools of these students. In addition, awards and certificates were presented to Dhamma school students who achieved victories at the 2025 District Students’ Competency Competitions.
Another special feature of this year’s ceremony was the presentation of honorary awards to the Venerable Presidents and Secretaries of the Kegalle District and Regional Buddhist Affairs Protection Councils, in recognition of their dedicated service towards the advancement of the Sasana and the development of Dhamma school education. A total of 33 honorary awards were presented on this occasion.
The religious sermon and guidance at the ceremony were delivered by the Most Venerable Mugunuwala Anuruddha Nayaka Thero, General Secretary of the All-Island Buddhist Affairs Protection Council. A special honorary award was also presented to the Most Venerable Thero in recognition of his dedicated service to the Sasana.
The occasion also featured performances by students who had achieved victories in the “Mawpiyaguna” (Parental Appreciation) competitions and students who had won awards in speech competitions, showcasing their talents and achievements.
Several remarkable dance performances by the Devalegama Sasshri Kalaayathanaya were also presented, adding colour and cultural value to the event.
The District and All-Island Students’ Competency Awards Ceremony was organized jointly by the Kegalle District Buddhist Affairs Protection Council, Regional Buddhist Affairs Protection Councils, the Kegalle District Secretariat, and the Buddhist Affairs Coordinating Officers of the District and Divisional Secretariat Offices, with the support of sponsoring parties.
The ceremony was attended by the Venerable Presidents and Secretaries of the District and Regional Buddhist Affairs Protection Councils, Mr. R. L. Rajapaksha, Chairman of the Galigamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha, Mr. K. G. S. Nishantha, District Secretary of Kegalle, Additional District Secretaries, Divisional Secretaries, the Coordinating Secretary of Member of Parliament Mr. Kanchana Welipitiya, government officials, Dhamma school students, teachers, parents, and a large number of other invitees. translate to sinhala
