A program to inform Census Commissioners and Deputy Census Commissioners regarding Population and Housing Census-2024 (Listing Phase) was held today (30) at the District Secretariat Auditorium.

 Due to the epidemic threat and economic crisis in the country, the population and housing census that was scheduled to be held in 2021 has been decided to be held in 2024. According to this, the first phase of mapping the Divisional Secretariat Divisions has been completed and all the houses have been separated into census categories. And it is planned to start the second phase of building calculation.

The Governor is appointed as Census Commissioner and Additional District Secretaries, Divisional Secretaries and Assistant Divisional Secretaries are Deputy Census Commissioners and Assistant Census Commissioners. Ms. Pushpa Gunasekara, Senior Statistician, Kegalle District Coordinating Officer, explained the existing roles related to those ranks.

Furthermore, the data and information related to population and housing census will be directly computerized this time and the necessary tablet computers will be given to the divisional secretaries symbolically covering all 11 divisional secretaries.

Mrs. Vasana Jayasekara, Director (Research) of the Census and Statistics Department completed the island's first divisional secretariat division map related to Kegalle district and presented it to Kegalle District Governor.

This enumeration phase is planned to be completed in about eight weeks and today's awareness program was organized by the District Statistics Division.

Additional District Secretary (Administration) Dinisha S. Rathnayake, Additional District Secretary (Lands and Development) Gamalatge Dilip Nishantha and other staff officers, Divisional Secretaries, Assistant Divisional Secretaries, District Senior Statistician Mr. Janaka Rajapaksa, Assistant Directors of Divisional Secretaries and others were present on this occasion.
