The District Coordinating Committee which examines the development programs of Kegalle District was held today (15) at the District Secretariat Auditorium under the chairmanship of Sabaragamuwa Provincial Governor, District Coordinating Committee Co-Chairman Mr. Navin Dissanayake and Members of Parliament District Coordinating Committee Co-Chairperson Mrs. Rajika Wickramasinghe.
Among the matters discussed here are the future development of the disaster-hit area of Lower Kaduganna, turning the Behenenella clinic into a service center, reducing damage to crops from wild animals, establishing tourism training centers centered on Galigamuwa, Kegalle, Ruwanwella, Warakapola, and multi-purpose development assistants. There were many issues including problems related to giving appointments.
Among the facts revealed in this meeting, it was said that 7575 hectares of paddy fields are expected to be cultivated for 2023/2024. Moreover, 971 firearms have been released so far for the purpose of reducing crop damage and all 1120 firearms have been issued so far. It was also explained here about the project of the integrated mechanism expected to protect vulnerable and vulnerable children in the district and 9723 child abuses have been reported in 2022 and 5315 in 2023. The progress of the relief beneficiaries in the district was announced and it was stated that 24,118 beneficiaries in the extremely poor category, 38,978 in the poor category, 18,785 in the endangered category and 16, 241 in the transitional category have qualified for the relief.
