The District Coordinating Committee which inquires about the development programs of Kegalle District was held today (27) at the District Secretariat Auditorium under the chairmanship of Sabaragamuwa Provincial Governor, District Coordinating Committee Co-Chairman Mr. Navin Dissanayake and Member of Parliament District Coordinating Committee Co-Chairperson Mrs. Rajika Wickramasinghe.

Sachini Satsarani of Kegalle St. Joseph Girls' High School who won the first place in the arts section of the island in this year's high school examination, Sanjana Lalindya of Kegalle Swarna Jayanthi National School who took second place in the engineering and technology section and Tarushi Himasha of Kegalle Swarna Jayanthi National School who took the fifth place in the biosystems technology section were evaluated at the District Coordination Committee.

It was revealed that Kegalle district is in 12th place in the A-level examination results this year and there is a decrease in the overall results of the children, which is due to the lack of teachers and economic difficulties. The Governor further said that in the future work will be done to provide necessary training for teachers and to provide school computer lab facilities in order to improve the education of children in Sabaragamuwa District.

In this meeting, the progress of the New Village, New Country Development Program, Prosperity Production Villages and Traditional Production Villages projects were presented. Provisions have been allocated for Bulathkohupitiya, Warakapola, Galigamuwa, Dehiovita domains under the food security program. Also, with the direct participation of the community in the development programs, the establishment of Janasabha centered on Aranayaka Valagama village, and the progress of the household goat rearing program was revealed here.

Projects are to be implemented on the basis of allocations set aside this year for the essential maintenance work of Provincial Council schools Seelananda and Royal College. Necessary estimates for the essential maintenance work of 2024 for Bandaranaike College, Hettimulla College and Pannala College have been prepared.

In Kegalle district, 7182 people have gone abroad so far and with the intervention of the Foreign Employment Bureau, nursing training programs, language skills, and a two-day training program for every person going abroad are still happening was revealed in this committee. In addition to this, scholarship programs for children of immigrant families, education aid kits worth ten thousand rupees and necessary equipment for the disabled are still in operation.

The need for an integrated mechanism to protect vulnerable and at-risk children in the district was revealed here. It was discussed here that there are currently 356 vulnerable children in the district and the need to set up a program to take care of these children as a social mission.

It was said here that there is an increase in dengue this year compared to last year and the highest number of dengue cases are reported in Mawanella and Warakapola and six deaths were reported last year and no deaths have been reported so far this year. It was emphasized here that constant attention should be paid to cleaning houses and government institutions. Also, three surgeries and an eye center that can treat about 170 patients is to be opened in Rambukkana area.
