As a natural drink, king coconut is in great demand in the world market and is a crop with great export demand. A project to establish king coconut villages is currently being implemented across the island with the aim of increasing Sri Lanka's foreign exchange through the promotion of king coconut cultivation to meet the demand. Currently eight king coconut villages are expected to be established in Kegalle district and the target of king coconut cultivation in the district is four thousand saplings.

Accordingly, a meeting of king coconut growers and stakeholders of king coconut cultivation in Kegalle district was held today (16) in the morning at Molagoda Dhara Grand Hotel premises.

There, all the parties involved in king coconut cultivation such as exporters, suppliers of inputs needed forking coconut cultivation and other stakeholders in the king coconut sector were gathered in one place and coordinating each of these stakeholders to identify the problems in the field and exchange information between the stakeholders.

Symbolically, king coconut plants were also distributed there.

This program was jointly organized by the regional manager of the Kegalle District Coconut Cultivation Office, Mr. W.NK Vehella.

On that occasion, District Secretary/ Governor Ranjana Jayasinghe, District Agriculture Director M.S. Thilakasiri, officials of the Coconut Cultivation Board, officials of government and private institutions related to king coconut cultivation, growers and others attended the event.
