A meeting to gather ideas for the formulation of the policy of the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation and the preparation of the Operational Action Plan for Unity and Coexistence was held yesterday (10) at the District Secretariat auditorium under the patronage of Kegalle District Secretary/Government Agent Ranjana Jayasinghe and Additional District Secretary (Lands) Dilip Nishantha.

The Office for National Unity and Reconciliation was established by Act No. 01 of 2024. The Act has presented 8 special areas to promote national unity in Sri Lanka. The aim is to obtain the views and suggestions of the community at the provincial level to formulate the National Reconciliation Policy in relation to those 8 issues.

Accordingly, under the USID - SCORE project, Global Communities and the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation are expected to jointly develop a community-based dialogue at the provincial level on the 8 issues. The Deputy Director of the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation, Ms. Sanduni Ariyawansa, and the Assistant Director, Mr. H. S. Lakmal, participated as resource persons for this workshop and strengthened the group dialogue. This program, which was a very successful workshop, was organized by the District Coordinator of National Unity and Reconciliation, Gayani Hemamali, and the Development Officer of the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation, Ms. Deepthi Ekanayake.

About 35 people from the Kegalle district participated in this program, including religious representatives, government officials, private sector officials, women, youth, civil society activists, and representatives of coexistence associations.
