An awareness campaign on the Student Ambassador Program for school students in the three education zones of the Kegalle District was held today (18) at the District Secretariat Auditorium in connection with the National Child Protection Authority and the Ministry of Education, which is being implemented jointly by the National Child Protection Authority and the Ministry of Education.

This program, which aims to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes regarding child protection, will educate student leaders on the national policy on child protection.

Accordingly, the role of the National Child Protection Authority in child protection was explained by the District Child Protection Officer, Mrs. Vinodani Kulathunga. The District Psychosocial Officer, Mrs. Chathurika Bandara, informed about the Student Ambassador Program being implemented island-wide and its future steps, and several group activities were also conducted with the participation of the students.

The importance of psychological counseling in the school system was introduced by the District Psychology Senior Counseling Officer, District Coordinator, Mr. M.B.M. Iqbal.

The Kegalle Regional Child Protection Officer, Mr. Mahinda Dassanayake, explained to the student leaders present about instilling the habit of reading in the school system of the district and raising awareness about mobile library programs.

This program was organized by the District Child Affairs Department.

The District Secretary/Government Agent Ranjana Jayasinghe, Additional District Secretary (Administration) K.G.S. Nishantha, senior school student leaders, teachers, government officials and a group of others participated in the event.
