A review of the current situation of the dengue control process in the district was held today (31) under the chairmanship of the District Coordination Committee Chairperson, Member of Parliament Mrs. Rajika Wickramasinghe at the District Secretariat meeting hall.

According to the circular issued on April 20, a dengue control committee should be formed in every government institution and an officer should be appointed in charge of that committee. Every month, the progress of the related dengue control activities will be reviewed. Information about existing and future plans was inquired from the relevant officials.

District Secretary/District Governor Mr. Ranjan Jayasinghe said here that all the institutions have dedicated themselves to eliminate the dengue project in his district. In conjunction with the World Environment Day on June 5th, an environment week is being implemented and since June 1st is reserved for cleaning the environment, it was asked to give more attention to dengue control there as well.

Currently, a project of dengue type 03 is spreading in the country and there is a possibility that it may spread rapidly and there is a possibility of more number of patients being reported. Therefore, the need for everyone to be responsible was emphasized here.

Mawanella, Kegalle, Dehiowita divisions have been identified as dengue high risk areas and about 1350 cases have been reported so far this year. Since 1/5 of the patients are school students, it was also emphasized that cleaning around schools is very important. A fine of Rs 3,92,000.00 has been collected from the people who maintained dengue breeding places and about 271 dengue control programs have been conducted in the local government bodies of a district. The respective institutions informed here that they expect to implement these programs continuously.

Additional District Secretary (Administration) Dinisha S. Rathnayake, Additional District Secretary (Lands and Development) Gamalatge Dilip Nishantha, District Planning Director A.A. Weerakoon, staff officers, divisional secretaries, district health services, epidemiology, government institutions and departments including police, private, non-government, estates and many other departments were present.
